Strategic Initiatives

Where Smart Meets Delicious

Simply offering well-balanced, beautiful food isn’t always enough. We use design strategies like product placement and choice architecture to make the healthy choice the easiest choice. Smart choices are always the default. That means sandwiches and burgers are served on whole wheat. Our health bars are stocked with a colorful bounty of fresh, local produce, lean proteins and house-made dressings. Nutritious beverages and snacks are located in prominent locations and placed at closest reach.

And it doesn’t mean we don’t love a good cheeseburger and fries every now and then. But we’ll make sure it’s the best burger you’ve ever had.

Smart Signal

Want to know a simple, approachable way to help people make healthier choices? Color. Our Nutrition Strategy Group has developed our Smart Signal program to make the healthy choice an easy choice by using simple color codes and strategic placement throughout the cafe. It incorporates choice architecture, color signals for smart choices, and balanced plates prepared by our chefs that meet our nutritional guidelines to ensure best performance.

Positive Messaging

Smart Signal connects what we eat to how we want to feel. It is an effective, well-studied system that influences choices over time using scientifically-based criteria. For the customer, the choices are simply identified by color throughout the cafe experience. The intentionally positive messaging helps impact health and performance. The best part? Our program also tracks the cafe production and sales so you can effectively track the program and identify key successes as well as areas of improvement.

Reporting for Better Business Decisions

Good nutrition drives health, well-being and performance. Our CafeTrack technology tracks menu offerings and employee purchases through the POS system. Detailed reports help guide better business decisions to promote healthier eating, improved performance, better health outcomes and lower health insurance costs. The tool helps measure the program’s return on value as well as on investment.
