Have a Pulse? How ISS Guckenheimer Celebrates World Pulses Day

To celebrate World Pulses Day and to raise awareness of the nutritional and sustainable food production benefits of consuming pulses (peas, beans, lentils, and other plants in the legume family), ISS Guckenheimer has developed five pulse-focused entrées to serve across its corporate dining locations on February 10 and beyond.

ISS Guckenheimer, a leading food services provider in the U.S., announced today new pulse-focused entrées to raise awareness of the nutritional and sustainable food production benefits of consuming pulses (peas, beans, lentils, and other plants in the legume family). The new offering debuts on February 10, which the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has designated as World Pulses Day.

“This offering is a culmination of the values and the philosophy of what ISS Guckenheimer is all about,” said Paul Fairhead, CEO of ISS Guckenheimer. “We aim to deliver highly nutritious, flavorful, and environmentally friendly food choices that nurture body and mind and are created from ingredients that have been sourced in low-impact, sustainable ways. These types of culinary innovations are a major priority for us, and we have some exciting concepts on the horizon as well.”

World Pulse Day Menu Highlights

The five pulse-focused entrees that ISS Guckenheimer will offer beginning on World Pulses Day have been meticulously trialed in ISS Guckenheimer’s test kitchens to ensure all ingredients meet low-carbon certification requirements as set by the World Resources Institute and still provide a delicious culinary experience. Additionally, each of these recipes features legumes and pulses as primary ingredients in alignment with the company’s partnership with the Beans is How Coalition.

The menu items include:

  • Roasted butternut squash and black bean tacos with chipotle salsa, pickled red onions, queso fresco, pepitas, and corn tortilla
  • Chickpea coconut curry with wilted spinach and steamed brown rice.
  • Lentil and garbanzo burger with avocado, red leaf lettuce, tomatoes, and aquafaba mayonnaise.
  • Plantain, tofu, and lima bean mofongo with portabella Bolognese sauce.
  • Red lentil meatloaf with Yukon Gold mashed potatoes, green beans, and spiced glazed carrots.

Sustainability Programs

ISS Guckenheimer has been aggressively pursuing its food sustainability initiatives. The company is making significant progress in its efforts to halve food waste. Through the Cool Food Pledge, and with support from the Beans is How Coalition, the company is targeting a 25% reduction in food greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. In partnership with the Beans is How Coalition, it is harnessing the nutritional power of beans in the creation of low-carbon meals with emissions of at least 38% below average. Last year, for the second consecutive time, the company also earned the #1 ranking for protein sustainability by The Humane Society of the United States, which noted its commitment to making 55% of menu options plant based by 2025.

The integrated facilities management service mix for ISS includes the provision of food, technical, workplace, and cleaning services, among others. The company provides these offerings across major industry segments, including life sciences, healthcare, technology, manufacturing, banking and professional services, and aviation.
